Time Grove is a Tel Aviv based based ensemble guided by acclaimed pianist Nitai Hershkovits alongside one third of Buttering Trio, and newly signed Stones Throw recording artist, Rejoicer. More Than One Thing is their debut album released on acclaimed London-based label Wah Wah 45s, and my god is it powerful.
The aura that Nitai and the rest of the ensemble are able to produce is just otherworldly. The buttery piano keys throughout are just mesmeric, with such passion and soul that completely captivates me in every way. “Second Attention” is a gorgeous piece that is is led by moving piano-led melody, with eerie guitar leads and a soft beat that is suffocated by the sheer power of the piano. Tracks like “Talek” bring more of an experimental, Can-like groove with subtle beats and quirky drumming that sounds both off-kilter and tribal in its rhythm and tone. The track builds with a piano melody that completely steals the show for me. Tracks like “Nezach” feature more electronic production, with swirling synths and guitar grooves that when combined with the fast pace of the beat, produces an electric groove. For some reason, this is the first time I’ve heard of Nitai Hershkovits, but I will remember the name. His talents are all over this record on piano, and I can’t express how good of an album this actually is.
