Mutant Academy, man. They are the hip-hop collective to follow this year. After covering a few of their releases in the past, (especially Panama Plus, which was among my favourite releases in 2017), I’m excited to write about this next release from Tuamie titled Emergency Raps, Vol. 4, which acts as a collaborative project between him and fellow member Fly Anakin. Emergency Raps is a series where Tuamie gets together with each core rap member of Mutant Academy to release stellar, hard-hitting albums.
Fly Anakin’s intricate and poignant lyricism and charisma makes him my favourite member of the group. coupled with Tuamie’s soulful and boom-bap production, Emergency Raps, Vol. 4 is an incredible new release from both members. Meandering between Tuamie’s sampled and looped production, Fly Anakin sounds incredibly confident and within his element, spitting braggadocios raps with a menacing delivery and flows that keep me entertained and amazed throughout. This really is a stunning release, and I cannot wait to see what Mutant Academy as a whole have planned for 2019, because they are one of the dopest collective around at the moment.
