I’m really excited about THE MUD SE, a newly formed group from South East London producing some jazz-infused hip-hop with a moody tone to it. Members include talented producer YUNG TURKISH, singer/producer SHAKE OF ARFA and rapper BEARLEY. The group released their debut EP SUNGAZER just last month and have been dropping singled since.
As mentioned, he EP sounds smooth, jazzy and moody in tone. The first track “WINDOWSILL” samples Roy Ayers’ classic “Everybody Loves The Sunshine,” with the gorgeous Rhodes keys giving an ethereal and meditative feel to it. “PRESSED T” samples Barbara Lewis’ “Hello Stranger,” with rapper BEARLEY giving some introspection to his lyrics on this track and throughout the EP. Tracks “SE” and “VERVAIN” feature King Krule-esque guitar leads that are prominent throughout some Sub Luna City releases.
Since the release of their EP they have released two other tracks titled “TRANQUIL” (produced by YUNG TURK & SUGAR RAY) and “ROOFTOP” (produced by YUNG TURK & WANSPLIFF) that are definitely worth your attention.
I’m sure there’s much more to come from this talented collective, so keep your eyes peeled! In the meantime, listen to SUNGAZER below as well as their newest releases.
