I’m thrilled to be able to introduce Yelloh, an incredibly talented young artist from London. Her voice is both gorgeous and soothing, and is able to create abstract hip-hop soundscapes that are introspective in theme and both soulful and eerie in production. Having purchased and used a Rago Foot and Joe Armon-Jones beat titled “Futon” off the Sonic Verse OGAR TOOF album, Yelloh has been able to craft her own vibe, and with her new single of the same name, she is able to embrace and cultivate her freedom of expression. It just comes to show that you don’t need a big budget at all to produce and record music. Neither do you have to have excessive clout to get amazing beats anymore, which in recent years has been a major turning point for introverted creatives like Yelloh, who have become comfortable writing in their own space rather than in jam sessions.
The single starts off with jittery synths and continues with a dark, distorted sound that is bass-heavy. She starts with the sentence “yo, I’m feeling like I need a little break from London,” in which she sounds fatigued and somewhat agitated. She goes on a dark, spoken word-like rap that delves deep into her frustrations with the industry and personal struggles she has faced recently. This single is triumphant in its message though, as she reassures that she has her soul back and will “change the game” as a result of her hard-work and focus. Really exciting times from this young talent, who has along with this single, released another couple of tracks over the past couple of months. She showcases her skills as a rapper and singer, and is backed by blissful production that further highlights her beautiful aura as a musician. The track “aura” perfectly encapsulates that feeling.
You can check out her single “Futon” below on YouTube, and her other singles via Spotify, linked below. Make sure you check her stuff out and support. She also has a new EP coming out in September, so stay tuned for that.
