a few thoughts: rosie turton has been an ever-present and important voice within the continuously evolving uk jazz scene. she’s a talented trombinist and composer and a member of the jazz group nérija, having also collaborated with others incredible artists over the years. nomieye is her modular synth-led alias, and tapestry of an echo is her debut project under that name. its five tracks contain sweet, atmospheric and immersive soundscapes with lush synth-led melodies and subtle brass instrumentation that meanders throughout the ethereal ambience. from the stunning and utterly mesmerising opener “the earth in all conscience” to the colourful and grandiose closer “entwine”, the ep is a powerful, meditative body of work that feels earthly in nature. “sun in river” featuring a powerful spoken-word piece by and is phi is a powerful and meditative moment, while “solitary canyon” is a warm and inviting track, with birds chirping over gorgeous synths. “a sense of in-between” is another powerful and meditative moment that captures both an intensity and a lightness, with a delicate and ethereal tone and quality that again feels like a warm embrace. tapestry of an echo ep is a powerful and moving project that is captivating from start to finish.
