a few thoughts: gregory uhlmann is a guitarist, composer and international anthem affiliate (this is how i discovered his music originally). he’s also been a part of hand habits, meg duffy’s band. hot creek is their new collaborative project: a 13-track instrumental album with gorgeous guitar-led compositions, paired with swelling synth melodies that create a hypnotic, transcendental feeling that’s utterly mesmerising from start to finish. from the glitchy and upbeat opener “doing it for me” to the atmospheric and ambient closer “one for joseph”, the album meanders between dynamic and unassuming moments, such as on the frantic “sewering” to smooth and ethereal compositions on tracks like “public life” and “if i to chose”. the guitar leads are hypnotic, and the atmosphere and energy created between these two talents make for a spellbinding and meditative listen.
