Why you should listen: South London emcee KOFI has released a new project with talented London-based producer Tony Bontana named Bo-Fi Vol.1. With disorienting soul samples, sometimes heavy beats and KOFI’s usually dense and intricate raps. The 6-track project has some pretty cool moments, such as KOFI’s flow on the disorienting and off-kilter “STEEP” or his introspection on “TREESAP”, as he navigates through a groovy, synth-led beat. The beat on “EBB” is incredible too, while the “(BONUS)” track is incredible too, with a muffled beat, and KOFI’s introspections about his state of mind and mental health these days, with a darkness to the tone of the track that makes it a captivating one. Bo-Fi Vol.1 is an excellent new EP, so expectations for the eventual Vol.2 are high, and I’m sure both KOFI and Tony Bontana will continue creating timeless art.
