Richmond, Virginia emcee Fly Anakin has teamed up with Connecticut producer Foisey Side A of their new project Skinemaxxx. The Mutant Academy member has been on a roll over the last 5 years or so, releasing some incredible music in the process. Seeing him live a few weeks ago in London was a reminder of his incredible rapping ability and the energy he carries on the mic in general.
The 12 track project is full of Foisey’s stellar production, as he combines soulful samples and heavy, hard-hitting drums throughout the 24 minutes. “Blicky Bop” is an example of a highlight on the album, where the beat’s atmospheric vocal sample creates a warm, lush mood, with Fly Anakin’s animated delivery adding character to the track. “Bonnet Music” is another standout, a track devoted to loving women, with funny Giannis references and an incredibly catchy hook and groove. “Affirmations” featuring Pink Siifu is another fantastic track, as Fly Anakin’s introspective raps about his dreams and aspirations, while Pink Siifu’s aspirations fit well with the smooth and jazzy production. The frantic energy of “Suppression” is fantastic, while “Blizzies With GoQuan” has this smooth, melodic beat that allows Fly Anakin to rap with personality for one final time before the closing skit.
Fly Anakin’s Skinemaxxx (Side A) is a fantastic body of work that only increases the hype for Side B. His chemistry with Foisey is exceptional, as the producer laces some incredibly lush and soothing beats, that complement Fly Anakin’s usually animated vocal performance is always a joy to listen to.
