AJ Suede kicks this year off in style with a fantastic new project titled Indica Music. Having been introduced to him fairly late, last year with the release of Hundred Year Darkness, I’ve swiftly made my homework on his previous work, and am happy to have this as my first review of the year.
The 9 tracks throughout are groovy and soulful, with gorgeous soundscapes produced by some real talents on the beats. Wolftone, Khrist Koopa, Small Professor, Argov, Hann 11, Morriarchi, Bloodblixing, Evilldewer all do their thing on the production, with hazy, beautiful samples that provide a smooth yet raw sounds for AJ Suede to just rhyme over them. And he does it with ease. He combines eclectic film and weed references with an insight into his life and experiences that shape him, his raps are full of vivid paintings of his own state of mind, something that he is continuously trying to perfect with every release.
Highlights for me are “Thoth”, produced by Khrist Koopa, “Weaponize” produced by Argov, “Vision Board” produced by Morriarchi and “Marian Apparition”. Check the whole album out, and don’t forget to support!
