Music: Illingsworth – sad boiz

Detroit-based producer Illingsworth comes through with a brand new beat tape titled sad boiz. I’ve been a fan of the talented producer’s music for a while now, and I’m happy he’s remaining consistent with his hard-hitting and groovy production.

Throughout it’s 6 tracks, Illingsworth is able to really bring high-energy, with hard-hitting boom-bap beats that are complemented by angelic and soulful synth leads. “rubies” kicks the project off with that exact vibe, with percussion throughout the track adding a warmth and beauty to it that is just gorgeous. The hard-hitting “five ten minutes” is incredible too, with an almost ferocious beat that brings incredible energy. “swill” is a groovy masterpiece, with it’s vocal sample and soulful touch that is just infectious throughout. “sad boys” and “fighting control” are two more mellow and melodic tracks, closing the project out with a brilliant cinematic soundscape. Overall, the beat tape is brilliant, putting Illingsworth’s talents on full display, highlighting just why he’s one of the best producers out of Detroit at the moment.
