Brazilian hip-hop producer VHOOR comes through with a short EP titled MPBEATS full of eclectic, boom-bap instrumentals sampling the sounds of Brazil. It’s an engaging and hard-hitting project that has put this talented producer on my radar.
The incredible soul of “Coração” sets the tone of the project. With heavy drums and a harmonica and vocal sample throughout, this track is engaging, upbeat and so fun. “Imagem” similarly feels groovy and engaging, with claps and beats that perfectly capture this classic hip-hop tone throughout. “Mais um Dia” and “Tempo” similarly keep the same engaging, synth-led boom-bap production throughout the tracks. It’s the final track however, “Voz” that sticks out to me for it’s sheer energy and crazy beat. It’s raw and hits so incredibly hard, I’ve had it on repeat for the last ten minutes of writing this piece. Overall, VHOOR comes through with a stellar body of work that hits hard and proves why he’s a producer to watch.
