Green & Gold is the new collaborative project between UK-based hip-hop musicians Mr Key and Greenwood Sharps. With gorgeous, synth-led production from Greenwood Sharps and intricate lyricism from Mr Key, this project is a great one, really capturing a reflective and eclectic tone throughout its 7 tracks.
The ethereal opener “The Good Intentions Paving Co.” features poetic and rather optimistic lyrics and a wonderful flow from Mr Key, who really excels on this track. The beautiful, melodic instrumental to “That’ll Be The Day” complements Mr Key’s honest lyricism, while “Luv Is All U Need M8” is a beautiful R&B inspired track that is incredibly poignant lyrically. The harder-hitting “Go Outside” is complemented by gorgeous synths and effects that add a mesmeric tone to the track. “G&G / Vonneguts” is another gorgeous track featuring ethereal guitar leads and lyrics about self and love. “Chapada Diamantina” closes the album brilliantly with more of a boom-bap beat, complemented by synth keys and a beautiful aura, again with lyrics about beauty and love. Overall it’s an uplifting record, with Mr Key’s more poetic, inspiring lyrics and Greenwood Sharps’ beautifully textured production throughout.
