Music: JazzZ – Yummy Vibes

JazzZ is a singer from Lagos, Nigeria. Her brand new project Yummy Vibes is a gorgeous, layered and rhythmic one, as she brings influences from afrobeats, R&B, Caribbean and soul music. It’s a fantastic body of work, and I’m quite happy I found this absolute gem.

The opener “My Body” is absolutely stunning, with a dynamic and beautifully rhythmic track, with drumming, heavy percussion, groovy basslines, gorgeous piano keys and guitar leads. Musically it is stunning. “Lover” features Myme and is a slower-paced track, with more of an emphasis on piano and synth melodies, though the drumming and gorgeous percussion does pick up throughout the track. “Gbim Gbim” is a soulful and memorable track with such incredible singing from the talented musician. “Shine Your Love,” has more modern R&B influences with it’s synth-heavy production and playful melody, while “Wild Thing” takes inspiration from reggae with it’s dub-heavy beat, along with the rich, textured and layered percussion throughout. “Juju Na Magic” is another stellar track, with gorgeous subtle yet beautiful guitar leads and a thumping beat, while “No Wahala” features heavy percussion and a raspier vocal delivery from JazzZ, who really showcases her range versatility on record. Lyrically, she tackles themes of love, relationships, mental health and self-love. She is raw and honest with how she feels, as she translates that brilliantly on this album. Overall, this is a beautifully layered and deeply introspective project that has heaps and heaps of soul and true passion throughout. A truly stellar body of work.
