Talented producer Jabbu has come through with a brand new project titled This Whole Time. This is my first introduction to the talented musician, and I love the moody, synth-heavy vibe throughout, as he creates a mystical tone throughout with a darker, slow-paced groove.
The album starts off with “the view fom here,”which has moody, meandering synths and a boom bap beat that hits hard. The project continues throughout with this mystical, gorgeous tone. The piano melodies on “janky wood bridge” are absolutely stellar, while “live in 5” has subtle but poignant basslines that are funky and provide an infectious groove. The spaced out feel on “two sides of the same coin” is sublime, while the harder-hitting rhythms on “infatuated with death” and “dusting for march” are dynamic and bring a thumping energy. The latter track especially has even a trap influence with its hard-hitting hi-hats and rumbling, bass-heavy beat. Overall, Jabbu is able to create a moody, hypnotic and captivating beat album that showcases his skills as a producer. I’m really impressed with it!
