Music: dakim – VOICES

Talented LA-based producer dakim comes through with a brand new beat tape titled VOICES. I’ve been a fan of his for a while now, so it’s always exciting hearing new music from the musician, and this new release doesn’t disappoint.

The project has a dark, moody and ethereal tone throughout. Synth leads and heavy beats dominate the soundscape. “cap” is a hard-hitting opener, with off-kilter synths, vocal samples and a hard-hitting beat. His ability to mix fascinating samples together with strings and hard-hitting beats is just incredible. Tracks like “faerie” feature these ethereal synths that are complemented by dominant beat claps that don’t complement the tone of the track at all, rather add a sense of chaos and unsettling energy to the track. “fountain” is a softer, more soulful track with vocal samples and strings throughout that add a delicacy to the music. Tracks like “vision” and “object” however are hard-hitting gems with off-kilter beats and samples that together, are a perfect match. Overall, dakim has come through with an excellent new album that showcases his incredible skills as a producer. Always keen on hearing new dakim and this project definitely didn’t disappoint.
