Deptford-based jazz collective Steam Down have released their debut single titled “Free My Skin.” Known for their incredible energetic and immersive live shows and their weekly Wednesday jam session at Matchstick’s Piehouse (previously Buster Mantis), the talented group have gone all out with their new single, not dropping a single drip of energy on it.
“Free My Skin” features incredible drumming, which is complemented by incredible horn sections and and tuba from Theon Cross. I can just imagine the thrill of witnessing this live, with incredibly dense percussion and angelic qualities throughout that really bring a tremendous energy and quality to the track as a whole. The vocals are great too, as guitar leads come in to add texture to the track. The spoken word moment near the end of the track from Brother Portrait was excellent too, as he’s really able to capture a lively and incredibly soulful moment. Overall, it’s a thrilling new single and I can’t wait to hear more from the talented group.
