Music: Natural Lateral – Cogito Ergo Jam

Echoing jazz legends like Azymuth, Roy Ayers and Lonnie Liston Smith, London-based band Natural Lateral have come through with an excellent new album titled Cogito Ergo Jam. With gorgeous textures and wonderful energy throughout, this is a wonderful project with a lot of infectious grooves and moments throughout.

The intimate energy throughout the album can be felt on tracks such as “Bossa Blue” with the groovy, Bossa Nova groove, with keys throughout which add texture, and of course the beat and basslines which provide the groove and rhythms throughout. “46 to Foulden” features more tribal, percussion-heavy rhythms that drive the track forward. The saxophone leads on “Days with Amber” are soulful and moving, while the energy and mystical aura on “Safe as sound” makes for a great listen. “Stalagmite” and “Yellow” are slower-paced drum melodies that perfectly capture the rhythmic, interstellar tone of the project, with gorgeous beat arrangements throughout. Overall this is a stellar album full of cosmic and stunningly beautiful melodies that are genuine and incredibly poignant. Thanks to Natural Lateral for releasing a gem.
