Music: Joy Orbison – Slipping

One of the most celebrated electronic musicians of the last decade of so Joy Orbison has come through with a brand new EP titled Slipping. I’ve been a fan of his music for a while now so I’m really happy there’s new music from him.

The 6 track project is full of dark, bass-heavy compositions that sound visceral and sharp. “Burn” kicks off the project with a highly engaging and fast-paced beat with contributions from Infinite and Mansur Brown. “Under features KEYAH/BLU as her subdued, moody vocals are interwoven with a dub-inspired beat, with thick basslines and synths throughout that give it an unsettling feel throughout. “w Dad” is a shorter, synth-led interlude, while “Breathe In” is a sharp, visceral and heavy track, with heavy metallic beats that sound industrial. “Walworth Waltz” is a soulful cut with with spoken samples and soulful synths throughout that give it a more upbeat aura. “YI She’s Away” is another stellar composition assisted by Mansur Brown, who brings rhythm and soul to the synth-heavy composition, broken down my electronic samples and broken beats throughout. Overall it’s a cohesive project that is musically dense and diverse in sound, with fantastic contributions and a tremendous energy and aura throughout.
