Legendary LA-based producer Teebs is back with a brand new album titled Anicca, his first in about 5 years. I have been a big fan of his melodic and mellow production, as he’s always been able to bring a spiritual, reflective tone throughout his work. This new album is no different, bringing a plethora of different influences and soundscapes that sound polished and utterly gorgeous.
Starting with “Atoms Song” featuring Thomas Stankiewicz, the subtle but poignant synth leads and effects give such an emotive sound that beautifully captures the essence of his music. On tracks such as “Prayers i” and “Slumber” he is able to bring a more emphatic tone with strings and synths that capture a raw aesthetic and power that few producers can replicate. Guest appearances and features are plentiful, as Sudan Archives appears on the soulful “Black Dove,” Anna Wise on the captivating “Threads,” daydream Masi on the inspiring “Universe” as well as Pink Siifu on “Daughter Callin’,” Ringgo Ancheta and Former Boy on “Mmntm,” Panda Bear on “Studie” and Thomas Stankiewicz on “Muted” and “Atoms Song – Capsule.” The beats and compositions throughout are diverse and eclectic, as he is able to balance more higher-paced tracks with slower, moodier ones. Overall, Teebs does not disappoint at all with Anicca, as he creates a textured, reflective and soulful album that truly captivates and captures my imagination. A true testament to his talents indeed.
