Blackpocket is the alias for legendary UK-based artist Steve Spacek. ALAYLY is brand new 7 track project from the talented musician who brings spacey and futuristic electronic rhythms with a dash of soul that makes this a pretty fantastic listen.
The glittery electronic beats and percussion on the “ALAYLY” set the tone for the rest of the album. It’s repetitive and meditative, bringing this otherworldly vibe that is captivating to listen to. The rest of the album has more of a soulful, funky touch, with incredible basslines and smooth synths sprinkled throughout on tracks like “Footsteps,” “In Da Back Room” and “Organic Tech,” with incredible soulful melodies and vocals that bring a uniquely beautiful tone to the album. The synths and off-kilter melodies throughout are accompanied by subtle vocals from guest feature Fatima, and the wonky bassline throughout this track makes for a captivating listen. “Wake Up Feel Good” is my favourite track, with low, D’Angelo-like vocals and subtle drumming that provides a beat to the track. The moody tone of the record is wonderful, as the humming noises throughout that are meditative. The synth-heavy “Worlds Together” is a pretty great synth-pop inspired track, and a decent way to close this fascinating project. Overall, Blackpocket comes through with a tremendous new project, and I can’t wat to hear more music from the talented musician.
