Music: Loraine James – For You and I

London-based producer Loraine James has released a brand new album For You and I. This is my first introduction to the talented musician, and I’m immediately hooked by the aggressive electronic compositions, as well as the soulful textures throughout that bring a beautiful balance to the music.

The album starts off with “Glitch Bitch,” a glitchy electronic track with soulful synth keys that are sprinkled throughout, as well as subtle vocal samples that brings additional texture throughout. “London Ting // Dark As Fuck” and “My Future” feature vocalist Le3 bLACK, as brings a unique voice and sound to the album. The former track is an abrasive, distorted one, with manic and aggressive synths and electronic sounds, while the latter has more of a beat and groove to it, with electronic synths that add a gentle sound to the record. The off-kilter and manic energy of “So Scared” is memorable, with a plethora of colourful and heavy sounds being meshed together brilliantly. “Sensual” features singer Theo, and is as the title suggests, more of a sensual, soulful track. With incredibly beautiful synths and an Aphex Twin-like break beat, this track is sublime and one of the clear standouts on this project. “Vowel // Consonant” is a swirling, eclectic track with a dynamic and incredibly textured soundscape that just pulsates throughout its 6 minutes. Overall, Loraine James brings a visceral, raw aesthetic with her new album, and I just hope she gets the recognition she deserves from this.
