Gilad Abro is a South African bassist who has released a brand new album titled Leaf Boy. It is part of the Time Grove Sessions, a series of meetings between different musicians and talented producer Rejoicer, who brings his talents in more of a production role, as each musician showcases their talents on their respective instruments.
On this 11 track album, talented bassist Gilad Abro brings the funk, with groovy infectious grooves and melodies that perfectly capture a soulful, jazz-inspired sound. Tracks like “Leaf Boy” and “Meantime Springtime,” are more slower-paced tracks with a more emotive tone, with gorgeous synths and percussion complementing the basslines, while “Honey Bee” featuring KerenDun is a wonderfully drum-led groove, with a Dilla-like beat that hits hard. “Angels” features Karolina, another vocalist who provides a soulful vocal contribution behind a beautiful backdrop of synths, percussion and infectious basslines. Tracks like “Parenthood Galore” are high in tempo, with electronic rhythms by Rejoicer and another infectious bassline that perfectly complements the tone of the track. With electronic tonalities throughout this 11 track album, Gilad Abro is able to create an eclectic, raw and sonically diverse project that perfectly highlight his talents as a producer. It’s a really great project.
