Legendary producer Four Tet comes through with a brand new 3-track EP titled Anna Painting. This man needs no introduction, releasing some of the most forward-thinking electronic and dance music over the past decade. With this new release, Kieren Hebden draws inspiration from painter Anna Liber Lewis. They have known each other from childhood, and the talented musician drew inspiration from her amazing colourful and textured paintings.
The title track kicks off the project with hypnotic drumming that is complemented by electronic synths and effects that are prominent throughout the track, really bringing forward a vibe that I’ve come to love from the talented musician. “Lahaina Noon” features some smooth and beautiful synths that are complemented by heavy beats and an infectious high-tempo beat that sets the tone of the track. The percussion throughout it makes it such a raw and frantic listen. “Breath” is a synth-driven track with no beat that evokes a hypnotic and calming mood, which is a welcome change of pace to the last two tracks and provides a reflective end to the album. This is another excellent release from the incredibly gifted musician and one that’s a welcome addition to his extraordinary discography.
