Headed by bassist and producer extraordinaire Horatio Luna, Australian based band The Psychedelic Freaks come through with an excellent new project titled Conference With The Other Side. All the music on this project is improvised by the group, who bring such infectious grooves. A major shoutout to Mandarin Dreams as well, who I saw at the live Touching Bass event a couple of weeks ago, it was absolutely spellbinding.
On Conference With The Other Side, the talented jazz and soul group mix infectious, bass-heavy grooves with inpeccable, hypnotic drumming throughout that completely capture my attention. The guitar grooves on “Inner Temple” are stunning, as they are accompanied by percussion and drumming that sounds raw and full of energy. The slight flute throughout adds a softer, more angelic tone to the record. The bassline takes center stage on “Welcome To The Beginning,” with infectious grooves that sound incredibly funky and feature amazing guitar leads as well. The intricate guitar plucking on “Supreme Vibrations” is impeccable, as it brings such a groove and aura to the music throughout. “Stairway To Your Mind” is much more reflective, as the amazing chemistry between all the members shines through with intricate compositions and a whole lot of soul throughout. Overall this is a great release that brings such soul and incredible grooves. It’s an album that deserves to be shared and celebrated!
