IG Culture’s influence on broken-beat jazz is almost incomparable to anyone else, as he’s been a tremendously important part of the scene. His new project is titled EP1, recording using the Likwid Continual Space Motion moniker, with 4 tracks of absolute heat.
The project starts off with “Earthbound,” with tribal percussion acting as the heartbeat of this track, with wind instrumentation adding colour and personality to the track, with synths and basslines adding to the dynamism of the track itself. The instrumentation throughout is textured and incredibly engaging. “Frequency” is an energetic change of pace to “Earthbound,” with it’s high-tempo percussion and layered instrumentation, bringing more trumpet and saxophone melodies that jump out you in the best possible way. “Let Me” has more of an electronic backdrop, with futuristic synths and keys bringing a hypnotic vibe and tone to the track. The beat on “The Box” is brilliant, with an incredible kick and snare that is complemented by synths, keys and more jazzy undertones that make it an emotive, soulful moment on the EP. The vocal samples and contributions throughout the project are brilliant as well. Overall, the talented musician is able to craft a short EP that is cohesive and immensely engaging and one I’ll be replaying a lot.
