Music: A. Billi Free & Tensei – I Luma

A. Billi Free is a multi-talented producer, writer, vocalist from New Mexico. I Luma is her debut album, and is produced entirely by Chicago-based producers Tensei. The album is a beautiful, soulful one, with smooth R&B sensibilities and a lot of beautiful and groovy interstellar funk music.

On tracks like “Flourish,” which features Angel Bat Dawid on clarinet, A. Billi Free really excels as a vocalist, bringing a soothing vocal performance to a gorgeous, textured record. This continues on tracks such as “Feel It Coming,” “Bold Heart” and “Rushing In,” which all feature high-pace drumming with sweet and gorgeous synths and wind instrumentation which elevates the production throughout. Lyrically, the album touches on themes of love and joy among other things, bringing insightful introspection and a whole lot of upbeat energy. “Frontier” is an upbeat, groovy and colourful track featuring keys and electronic compositions which are ethereal and really bring such an aura to the music. A. Billi Free really excels on this release, and the fact that this is just her debut album makes me incredibly excited for her future.
