Music: Kaidi Tatham – Serious Times EP

Kaidi Tatham is a legend in the House and Electronic music scene, having released some stellar albums over the years. It’s a World Before You was his last full length album, an intricate and cohesive body of work. This time around, he has released a short EP titled Serious Times, an energetic, fun project that continues on the same wave as his previous albums.

“Cost of Living” jumps you straight in, with a synth melody, funky basslines and a broken beat that is very high paced and wonderfully arranged. The percussion continues to build throughout the track. “Don’t Cry Now” has a similar rhythm and groove, with keys and broken beats being intertwined with thick, funky basslines. The key arrangements are beautiful on this one, as they continue to develop throughout the track, giving an ethereal tone to it. The layers of keys, guitar and bass grooves on “Sugar” are beautiful and mesmeric, with such soulful and beautiful energy that carry an infectious tone and vibe to the record. “Zallom” is a piano-heavy piece accompanied by drums and subtle synths. It’s a wonderful way to end this fantastic new EP from a legend who I admire and respect immensely.
