Birmingham based musician Reuben James comes through with his brand new EP titled Adore. This being my first introduction to the young talented artist, I was blown away by his incredibly soulful voice and the stunning, lush and layered instrumentation throughout the project.
7 tracks and 30 minutes in length, Adore EP features some sublime moments of pure bliss. Braxton Cook features on the opening record “If You’re Not There,” bringing impeccable saxophone leads to add to the layers of keys and synths throughout. The percussion and guitar leads on “I Know You Too Well” are incredible, with Reuben James singing beautifully over a percussion-filled instrumental. When the beat kicks in though… oh my god! The amount of infectious energy he put into this track made me get up and dance properly. Chris Dave brings his drumming talents on “What A Thing,” a groovy and soulful cut that is ethereal and angelic in tone, with keys being sprinkled throughout, bringing that groove to the record. “Adore” is stunning, as he sings beautifully about love over a lush and textured beat, with subtle but poignant saxophone leads in the background giving this track so much soul. The outro features jazz vocalist “Michael Mwenso,” giving an introspective vocal performance about growth and spirituality in a great way. Overall this EP is stunning. The smooth and soulful energy throughout is just breathtaking to listen to, and Reuben James proves himself as an incredible songwriter and overall musician.
