Music: Boomskully – Boomskully

Boomskully are a neo-soul band hailing from Adelaide, Australia. Consisting of Lauren Henderson on vocals, Jason McMahon on production and saxophone, Alex Wignall on keys and synths and Alexander Flood on drums, the talented quartet have created a stunning new self-titled project, once again highlighting how amazing the Australian music scene is.

Consisting of 6 tracks, this project is incredibly soulful, with its emphasis on gorgeous key melodies, drumming and stunning vocals from Lauren. Tracks like “Bring You Back,” have sweet melodies and ethereal keys that add so much soul and depth to the record. The brilliant saxophone melody on “Hear My Words” is another highlight for me on this project. “Q&A” has incredible Dilla-esque drumming with the deep groove and clap that gives this track such an angelic aura. The features on these tracks add instrumental and vocal depth to these tracks. Nelson Dialect, for example adds a stellar introspective verse while Miranda Daughtry adds brilliant vocal contributions to “Ted,” which end the album off in stellar, incredible fashion. Overall this album is fantastic, and once again highlights the extent of their talents. Their chemistry is amazing and it’s great to hear another band kill it with a new release.
