Norwegian hip-hop producer Ol’Burger Beats comes through with a smooth new project titled Daybreaks. Having followed this talented musician for the past few years or so, I’ve always been interested to hear new music from him, and as per usual, he doesn’t disappoint.
Spanning 17 tracks, this lengthy release contains some fantastic soulful moments, with keys, saxophone leads and hard-hitting beats. The smooth, buttery sounds on “Come Sunday” is an example of this smooth, soulful sound, with lush and layered instrumentation. “One For Ghost” re-imagines Dilla’s fantastic Luther Ingram sample on “One For Ghost” off his classic 2006 Donuts album. The incredible jazzy tones of “Enough For You” feature stunning keys and subtle brass, with an excellent beat and a groovy melody. The rest of the tracks on this album follow the same energy. Gorgeous piano samples, keys, hard-hitting boom bap beats and a whole lot of groove. Once again, Ol’ Burger Beats impresses on a release, and I keep on looking forward to the next projects.
