LA beat scene legend Ras_G has come through with a brand new album with The Afrikan Space Program titled Down 2 Earth Vol. 4. This project follows his excellent house and dance inspired release Dance of the Cosmos, released earlier this year. On this new album he goes back to beat music, creating hard-hitting, electronic rhythms among his beats that make my head bob tremendously throughout.
This album contains woozy, synth-heavy instrumentals on tracks like “DEACON SLAP” and “STROLLING DOWN DEGNAN,” and more boom-bap inspired moments such as the incredible “ADULTING” and “JUJU PT.2.” What Ras_G is able to do so effortlessly is bridge the gap between different genres and blend and mix styles effortlessly. We saw this with his last release, and the same type of eclecticism can be heard throughout this album. It shows why he is considered one of the greatest beatmakers of our generation, and I only hope he’ll continue releasing heat on every new release.
