Brighton-based R&B producer El Train comes through with a colourful new album titled Puzzles. As this is his debut project, it is the first time I have come across this young and talented musician, but he impresses on this release, with lavish and textured synth and key-heavy production that is enriched by vocals and features throughout.
From the stellar rap feature from Cold Callers on the opening track “Find a Place” to the soothing and hypnotic tone of the closer “Overwinter” featuring HEZEN, the sounds El Train is able to produce on this album are diverse and eclectic. The 8-bit beat influence on “Trying” makes it one of the more upbeat and interesting tracks, especially with the saxophone leads sampled throughout and the thumping beat. “All the Time” features a beautiful vocal performance from Javeon, whilst the rhythmic and dynamic groove on “Oh Baby” is also a highlight. The introspective tone Lord Apex is able to bring on “Keep it Clear” is also a stellar one, with jazzy undertones over a lavish instrumental. The upbeat energy on “She” is complemented by a verse from Barney Artist, who is a perfect fit for this track. Overall, El Train comes through with an exciting and groovy album that deserves to be heard and supported by everyone.
