Music: Balmarkodes – Karanlık Güneş

Karanlık Güneş is the debut EP from Istanbul-based producer Balmarkodes. With deep, electronic and often tribal sounding grooves and beats, the Turkish producer was really able to capture the spirit of the country with gorgeous samples and bağlama leads throughout.

“Karanlık Güneş (Original Mix)” is slower-paced track than the others, with a thumping beat but synths and guitars providing a gorgeous, meditative atmosphere. Higher-paced tracks like “Kestane (Original Mix)” bring subtle but powerful percussion throughout the track, as the thumping beat builds up and continues thumping and growing throughout the track. My favourite track however, is “Yabay (Original Mix)” as it is the most instrumentally textured track and features some gorgeous soothing vocals throughout, as well as percussion and a whole lot of guitar melodies and basslines. It’s the most emotive moment of the entire project, and as a whole this did not disappoint.
