Mati Zundel is an incredibly talented Argentinian music who goes by the name Lagartijeando. Having released some amazing music in the past such as his 2017 project El Gran Poder, it was almost certain that any new album he releases would be just as magical and mesmeric as his previous work. This is exactly the case with his brand new album Jallalla, a hypnotic journey through slick and smooth guitar leads and loops, as well as electronic grooves that just feel amazing.
From the get go with “Villazon-Potosi,” the album starts with percussion, growing in intensity as the track progresses. Electronic synths follow suit, as well as a gorgeous guitar sound that brings such a mesmeric, hypnotic tone to the record. The melody is slow, but empowering, and the guitar and electronic synth leads bring character to the track. “La Frontera,” which features the soulful voice of Minük, is as sweet a honey. The soft guitar arpeggios are stunning, and throughout the track give Minük a soothing, stunning soundscape for her to sing beautifully on this track. The more upbeat parts of this album are featured in tracks such as “Chakana Cosmica,” with it’s relentless, samba-like energy. “A Todo Pai” is also relatively upbeat, with a great vocal feature from Javier Arce. The track is incredibly textured, just rich in sounds and layered percussion and guitar grooves. This can be said for the majority of the project, and I really can’t say much else about this great, great album.
Lagartijeando came through with an absolute gem. Jallalla is a terrific project, and one that absolutely needs supporting! Listen to his new album below via Bandcamp and enjoy the hell out of it. Released via Wonderwheel Recordings.
