Aan are a rock band from Portland, Oregon. Signed to one of my favourite labels Fresh Selects, they have released a fantastic new album titled Losing My Shadow. The group have been able to create a groove-driven, moody and emotive album that brings character, a lot of beautiful guitar riffs and emotive, soulful vocals.
Tracks like “Truly Massive” are incredible, with smooth synths and basslines, as well as subtle guitar riffs that bring an emotive, poignant sound that just grows on me the more I listen. The more dynamic moments on records like “Born A Sucker” and the second half of “Falling” are standout moments as well, with exceptionally intricate and overpowering drums and basslines that just drive the tracks forward and make them memorable standouts. Softer, more emotive and heartwarming moments appear on tracks like “Life Of The Party” and “Cause and Effect” bring soulful synths and soothing vocal performances, which make for a genuinely soulful and wonderful musical experience. Some of the guitar leads and synths are as smooth as honey, and this reminds me to listen to more indie rock music.
A major shoutout to Aan and Fresh Selects for this release. I hope to hear more from this talented band, as they have so much potential for the future. Listen to Losing My Shadow below via Bandcamp, and don’t forget to support!
