Music: Ahmedou Ahmed Lowla – Terrouzi

Ahmedou Ahmed Lowla is an electronic musician from Nouakchott, Mauritania. Terrouzi is his newest release, a stellar album full of dense electronic compositions influenced by the sound from that region. He plays the keyboard effortlessly in compositions that are lengthy and incredibly fun and engaging.

Tracks like “Seyni” and “Bembara” are long and intricate compositions, with percussion and drumming giving the tracks a groove to them, with Ahmedou’s incredible keys bringing the tracks to life. He’s so talented that he has earned a reputation for his evocative theatrics, accentuating notes with by playing with his elbows, or tapping the keyboard with his head. That kind of engagement and dedication is to be commended, and once again, the intricacies of some of the compositions and the change in tempos are what makes some of the tracks on here so fun to listen to. The synths on “Kar” bring an ethereal quality to the track, a feature that makes it one of my favourites on this 13 track album. Ahmedou Ahmed Lowla is an incredible talent and really shines through on this album.
