Music: Afterclapp – ZAMBI

Rodrigo Vellutini aka Afterclapp is a producer from São Paulo, Brazil. This is my first introduction to the talented producer, and this new project ZAMBI is his first solo record.

Just 4 tracks in length, ZAMBI is quite a memorable one as it leaves its mark with hard-hitting boom-bap production, soulful samples and clear Brazilian influences. The deep vocal samples on the titled track kick it off with this soulful, groovy vibe. Heavy bass comes in as he loops the samples, adding layers of production and synth. The sample changes and the beat pummels on incredibly. “Sonho de Vidro,” the second track features a soulful vocal sample from the legendary Jaime E Nair on their track “Olho De Vidro,” also samples by Kaytranada on his 2016 R&B jam with Craig David “Got It Good.” LZØ features on “Esperando o Navio,” which is a smooth, groovy banger, with soulful vocals chopped to perfection. “Baticum Gererê” closes the album with style, with percussion and another bossa nova style track. It’s amazing what Afterclapp was able to do on this record and throughout the entire project. The samples and energy he brings through the hard-hitting beats are just infectious and perfectly put together. I’m eager to hear more from this talent.
