One of my absolute favourite keyboardists is back with a brand new single titled “Icy Roads (Stacked).” Joe Armon-Jones has been releasing some of the best music in recent years (Starting Today being one of them – one of my favourite albums of 2018) as well as contributing and collaborating heavily with the rest of the jazz scene in the UK. He is set to release and album at the end of June, which is something I am incredibly excited about, and his single sounds incredible.
With ethereal keys and angelic synths and drumming, the track already elevates itself musically to such mesmeric standards, that it’s just breath-taking to listen to. As he continues killing it on the keys, the drums (from KwAkE bAsS) and basslines (from Mutale Chashi) complement his virtuosic playing with such elegance and soul. This is why he is one of the best musicians within the scene, and it’s incredibly exciting not only to see and hear him grow as a musician with each release, but to notice and admire the positive impact he is having on jazz music. Recently touring in places like Japan, it’s clear that he is here to establish himself as one of the greats. And he will be.
