One of my favourite releasing music these days Rago Foot has come through with a brand new project titled WE NEED TO TALK. Following the release of his excellent Another Man On A Zig Zag Mission, a project I was raving about at the time of its release, I was psyched to find out that he is releasing a new 17-track album. From the get-go, the dark and menacing tone I have come to love about the talented musician hits you, and that energy just continues throughout.
The majority of the album is produced by Rago Foot himself, but features are plentiful, including: Simon Manyonda, Aby Fulani, John Glacier, Jadasea, Nigz TG, Goya Gumbani and Elija Maja. The diverse array of features bring an eclectic mix of energies and personalities. The introspective lyrics on “Coming For Me” and the discorded, pulsating beat is one of the many highlights, as the eerie synths dominate throughout. The guitar plucks on “Can’t Hide Forever,” are menacing, with subdued vocals from Simon Manyonda makes this a crazy listening experience. The crazy beat on “Duel” is fascinating and the percussive beat on “Something In The Water” with Jadasea is some collaboration and some beat. For the most part, the production on this album is abrasive, unsettling, disjointed and eclectic. With trap influences sprinkled throughout, this album is moody and perfect for a dark, late-night setting. It’s a perfect soundtrack, as with his other releases, for a dark, cold and musty walk around South East London.
