Seba Kaapstad are a super talented and multi-national neo-soul/hip-hop/jazz quarted consisting of Ndumiso Manana (Vocals & Lyrics), Zoe Modiga (Vocals & Lyrics), Sebastian Schuster (Keyboards (Piano & Rhodes), Bass (Double Bass, Electric, Bass Synth), Synthies, Composition) and Philip Scheibel ( Programming, Drums, Synthies, Fx). Together they have come through with a phenomenal new album titled Thina (the Zulu term for ‘us’). With 12 tracks and 43 minutes in length, the album is full of amazing sounds, grooves and rhythms that make it one of the better soul albums to come out this year.
Tracks like “Thina” and “Africa” feature stunning key and Rhodes melodies that are complemented by dope drumming and beautiful vocals. The latter track speaks in Zulu, really bringing to life African musical influence on the world. With sublime basslines throughout the album, especially on tracks such as “Love!,” the band are able to create an immensely groovy album that just makes you want to groove. More upbeat, electronic rhythms are present on the album, such as the very catchy “Playground,” with it’s upbeat rhythm and pulsating beat. Thina is an eclectic project that mixes influences beautifully in an album that is consistent and incredibly enjoyable. South Africa, Swaziland and Germany represent!
