Music: Freddie Joachim – Beyond The Sea of Trees

California-based producer Freddie Joachim is no new name in the producing and hip-hop world. Having discovered him through the beat “Waves” off Joey Bada$$’ debut mixtape 1999, I have been a fan ever since. His lush, soulful and sample-heavy production is something to admire.

Tracks like “Serenade” and “Sun Dress” feature some soulful keys that are sprinkled throughout the smooth beats, with soft percussion and basslines adding texture to the music. Tracks like “Unlimited” and “Sun Dress” have more of a heavy feeling to them with a Dilla-like thumping, head-knocking beat as well as excellent chopped and sampled vocals and angelic synths. The layers to the music on this project shows exactly why Freddie Joachim is one of the better producers working today. There is so much character to his music, with a lot of it sounding like pure live instrumentation. That is a talent within itself, and I cannot wait to hear Freddie go to new heights with his music, because he still has immense potential he has yet to unlock and uncover, which is what makes him such an exciting face in hip-hop today.
