New York based emcee SIDEWALK KAL teams up with Japanese producer ILL SUGI for a collaborative project titled THE ILL SOLUTION. Being much more familiar with ILL SUGI’s work through some stellar releases recently such as ANIMISM, I was looking forward to listening to this project and it’s safe to say that it doesn’t disappoint.
As expected with ILL SUGI, his beats are so ill and soulful that it’s hard not to do the stank face when listening to his production. Tracks like “BLACK POWER” and “HANDKERCHIEF HAND” feature soulful samples and beats that are as smooth as silk. This gives SIDEWALK KAL the opportunity to flow effortlessly, spitting personal and introspective rhymes about growing up and family, such as SCIENZ OF LIFE,” also talking about his experience as a black man in America as of recent. The conscious and intricate lyricism is what makes him a captivating writer and rapper, and his delivery is confident incredibly confident as well. Overall, this is a terrific project that highlights both of their talents first hand.
