Music: MUNDU – HANA

MUNDU is a young and talented producer from London. I was first introduced to him through this project and his collaborations with my friends in the scene Diamant Ballou and Lo-Wu. I’m finally excited to review his ‘new’ project titled HANA.

I say ‘new,’ because here’s the thing – this EP came out on the 18th of January. To be honest, when I played this initially, I wasn’t feeling it that much. It was the music I was listening to at the time of its release that for some reason made me hesitant over sound of the project. However, I gave it a a few more listens, and sure enough I was wrong, this project is excellent. MUNDU, being both a producer and singer, showcases exactly why he’s one of the best upcoming artists in the UK. His smooth and soulful vocal performances throughout are gorgeous throughout, and an example of this is the amazing duo with Diamant Ballou on “Northern Line.” The synths and subtle percussion and guitar rhythms are amazing. The bassline is smooth and man, this same energy is carried throughout this project. The afrobeat inspired “4 Your Groove” has a slick bassline and angelic synths that float over the track make it such a great track. “On My Ones,” is dope, but I’ll be honest, Lo-Wu killed it on the remix. “Catch Me If You Can” is probably my favourite track on the album, with an incredibly upbeat and energetic tone, with dominant keys and swirling electronic effects that are subtle but present throughout this track in particular. The amount of positive energy he brings to this album is so inspiring and I wish nothing but happiness and success for him, as this really is an excellent body of work.
