Music: Chiminyo – I Am Chiminyo EP

As a member of Maisha, Don Kipper and Cykada, the talented drummer and multi-instrumentalist Tim Doyle comes through with a new 3-track EP titled I Am Chiminyo. As Chiminyo, he is able to channel his inner DJ Shadow and Squarepusher with intricate sampling and an energetic tone that reverberates through speakers brilliantly.

“We’ll Never Know” features heavy drumming and a thick bassline that is complemented by synth leads and quirky sound effects that bring character to the track. It’s slower-paced than the second track “Kandy Lanx,” which has this 2-step rhythm that builds and builds as the track goes on. The track explodes in the latter half with heavy percussion and some heavy drumming and electronic effects that do sound like hard-hitting Squarepusher material. The third track titled “Dharma Bodies” is a physical 7″ exclusive, but features Indian-inspired melodies, intertwined with heavy percussion and energetic drumming yet again that sound really dope.

This is an excellent short EP that showcases Chiminyo’s talents as a drummer and a producer, and I’m only excited by what he has coming out in the near future. Listen to I Am Chiminyo EP below via Bandcamp and don’t forget to support!
