Music: Ninety7 – DAMN 3 (Single, off forthcoming debut mixtape Sugar Coats Won’t Keep You Warm This Winter)

North London rapper Ninety7 (real name Sean Michael Caulfield) has been making waves with some exciting music the last couple of years. one of the notable things he has worked on are the “DAMN” series, which are a collection of tracks which convey his interest with gritty, almost industrial production, simplistic but introspective and witty lyrics and a monotonous tone. His new track “DAMN 3” is off his forthcoming debut mixtape Sugar Coats Won’t Keep You Warm This Winter), set to be released in the next couple of days on the 22nd February.

It’s safe to say that this single is brilliant, with Ninety7’s menacing delivery and the trap inspired production. For some reason, the tone of this track reminds me of something Danny Brown might release, with it’s psychedelic, off kilter production, especially throughout the second beat, which features a twisted soul sample that screams “FIRE” and counters the heaviness of the beat that surrounds it. With Ninety7’s braggadocio and honest raps, he is able to add depth and flow to this record. “DAMN 3” is an impressive taster of what is to come on his new mixtape.
