Music: Jorja Smith – Lost & Found

The energy behind Jorja Smith’s music has been beautiful to witness over the last couple of years. The 20 year old singer from the West Midlands has collaborated with the likes of Drake, Stormzy and producer Preditah. Her smooth, R&B-laden music is as smooth as butter, and has garnered critical acclaim and buzz from various publications and musicians. Lost & Found is her debut album, a collection of songs that delve into her state of mind and creative process that has led her to this moment, and it’s a triumphant and ambitious statement.

Her vocal performance clearly stands out throughout this album. Singing with confidence, sexiness and attitude, Jorja is able to paint a vivid soundscape whilst also talking about her experiences growing up, finding love as well as being lost in a big city. Her maturity on this album is impressive considering her age and the fact that this is her debut album, and while some songs maybe aren’t as polished or fully developed as they can, records like “Lost & Found” and “Blue Lights,” her first single, shine through beautifully.

Jorja should be proud of her debut album. It’s got ambitious ideas, which tests the sounds of the new wave of young R&B and neo-soul artists coming through from the UK. You can listen to Jorja Smith’s debut album Lost & Found below via Spotify, and make sure you support the project in any way you can! She deserves all the love in the world. Released via FAMM.
