Music: 72 Soul – SOULDRIFTA

SOULDRIFTA is the new project from Belgian producer, writer and singer Peter Beda from Lazy Rebel, with his group/alias 72 Soul / Pierre Citron. It’s a fantastic new discovery which proves why Belgium is one of the best places in Europe for new soulful, hip-hop inspired music.

It’s an incredibly soulful project. The instrumentals to back Peter Beda’s introspective lyricism are driven by keys, and groovy, boom-bap production. One of the highlights is the track ‘En Terrace,’ where Peter talks in French about observing the world from a terrace, the terrace, at least to me, being a metaphor for his world and imagination. It’s an organic, raw sounding album, due to the fact that live instrumentation was used in the recording process (it definitely sounds like it). On ‘Buiten De Zone’, he effortlessly switches his lyrics from Dutch to French to English, which is equally entertaining as it is impressive.

So, to conclude, buy this album. It’s raw, authentic, soulful, smooth and with a lot of bounce too. It’s everything you would want from a late-night winter or summer listen. It’s pure blissful vibes. Listen to SOULDRIFTA below via Bandcamp, and make sure you support! Released on Urban Waves Records, who might be one of my record labels of the year, releasing some absolute gems.
