a few thoughts: ashtrejinkins’ legacy continues to be defined by forward-thinking, eclectic sounds that range from hypnotic ambience to dynamic techno rhythms. he’s genreless, always pushing the boundaries of what electronic music can sound like, and he’s been doing it for well over a decade. null territory ep continues this streak of incredible releases, with a subdued, meditative release. animated and melodic moments define the energy of the ep, with atmospheric moments like “feels so much” featuring –t and “the street lights are on” featuring movement by amaya being complemented by punchy, off-kilter drumming on tracks like “initializing” and “which version survives”. i love the sonic textures of this album. it feels warm and soothing yet restless and ever-changing. null territory ep is a sublime project showcasing why ashtrejinkins is one of the most talented artists working today.
