a few thoughts: following one of my favourite releases of 2025, all our knives are always sharp, tony njoku is back again with new music, and i am grateful. a world of bodies on fire is an instrumental 4-track ep with striking synth and piano compositions that come from a place of sadness and rage. the title track kicks the project off with a haunting synth-led piece that builds in intensity throughout, as the restless drumming that gets introduced at the two-minute mark carries this frantic, uncomfortable energy. the jittery piano melodies and subtle bass-groove on “streams and storms” make for an anxious listen, while “the quiet chaos of playing it safe” is a truly stunning piece. it’s emotive, beautiful and utterly hypnotic. the piano melodies are gorgeous, the synths are at times jarring and the drumming is steady throughout. it’s a 9-minute masterpiece. “etude no. 1” closes the ep out with a reflective and somber track, capturing a melancholic yet tender feeling that feels so raw and powerful. it’s a fantastic way to close out the project. a world full of bodies on fire is a moving ep, reflecting tony njoku’s mental state poignantly.
