a few thoughts: lynda dawn’s music has an ethereal, transcendent quality to it. her 2019 debut at first light was an incredibly beautiful project, capturing her delicate, sensual voice over some incredibly groovy and funky production. there was a spiritual tone to that project that instantly captivated me and immediately made me a fan. 11th hour is her new body of work, a soothing, emotive and soulful project that feels intimate and incredibly soulful from start to finish. it opens with “cosmic symphonic (intro)”, a lush, synth-led composition, with angelic vocals and a groovy energy to it that feels very nostalgic and beautiful. the driving guitar leads, bassline and drumming on “where you are” are incredible, as lynda’s sensual vocals serenade the track with emotive and introspective lyrics about love and being present and grateful for where she is in life. the angelic synths and strings on “play fair” are delicate, with a moody and sensual vocal delivery that is just incredible from start to finish. “memories” (interlude)”, with its atmospheric tone is another beautiful moment on the album, with its light but poignant drums giving it a catchy groove, as it flows perfectly into the soulful and beautiful “love is callin’”. the piano melody and angelic quality to the track is stunning, as lynda’s voice is as smooth and sweet as honey on this track. it’s one of my favourites on the project. the soulful and groovy energy of “do you dream?” is incredible, the subtle piano keys float over subtle guitars and drumming, as her emotive vocals create such a stunning energy throughout. “11th hour” is another incredible track, as she reflects on love and yearning for a relationship that brings grace and beauty to her life. the delicate, soulful and lush melody is absolutely perfect. “altogether (reprise)” featuring marco bernardis closes the album out with a stunning and emotive composition, with an incredible flute melody that adds to the delicate, emotive and soothing energy of the track. 11th hour an immersive, soulful and sensual body of work, with gorgeous production from the likes of al dobson jr, jackum, marco bernardis and lynda dawn herself. it channels the aura of 60s and 70s soul and funk releases, while simultaneously channeling a modern, youthful and vibrant energy that is just so infectious and soothing throughout.
